2025 Micro Nonfiction Story Writing Contest Results

Congratulations to the winners of the Dreamers 2025 Micro Nonfiction Story Writing Contest!

The results are in for our 2025 Micro Nonfiction Story Writing Contest! Once again, we were blown away by the depth and emotion packed into just a few short lines. These tiny stories carried big truths, and reading them was both a joy and an honour.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter. Your willingness to distill real moments and lived experiences into so few words is what makes this contest special. We don’t take that lightly.

Now, with great admiration for all of your work, we’re pleased to introduce this year’s winners:

First Place:

CRISPR History, CRISPR Future
by KM Kramer:

“CRISPR technology lets us edit genes—targeting DNA at precise locations to replace harmful genes or limit their expression. It’s a relief, frankly, to know we have new tools to prevent a feared genetic destiny.”

Honourable Mention:

Brotherly Love
by Stephanie Lafleur:

“Hiding in the closet, as far back as possible, I wrap myself up in my grandmother’s beaver fur coat. The warmth envelops me, swaddling, calming me. The silky lining – a tender touch on my skin.”

Honourable Mention:

Twenty-One
by Niko Alexandratos

“You would be twenty-one now, the age I was when I made the choice.”

The winners of the 2025 Micro Nonfiction Story Writing Contest have had their winning stories published in Issue 20 of the Dreamers Magazine.

Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to everyone who entered the contest!
