A Poem for Writers

Know that stories come from the heart, and are only fine-tuned by the mind.
Know that you can weave truth into your words, and feel safe in doing so.
Know that there is a separation between your writing, and yourself.

Know that some days, it will take all your strength to pull the words out, and other days you will barely notice as they stream from your heart to the page.
Know that it takes courage to begin, and that most people will never try.
Know that you have something unique and meaningful to contribute, and that your voice deserves to be heard.

Know that nothing you write needs to be beautiful, or complete, or illuminating… you are under no obligation to the page.
Know that you will always find something new through writing—perspective, and release, and wonder, among a great many other treasures.
Know that you have complete freedom on the page, and that it is truly, fully, and only yours.
