Dreamers Creative Writing

Fireside Writing Retreat

Fireside Writing Retreat – October 8-11, 2021

Join us at the Dreamers Writing Farm for a fireside writing retreat focused on writing to heal…

Over the past several decades, research into writing as a healing practice has shown that writing is good for our mental and physical health. People who routinely “write to heal” experience increased confidence, a sense of calm, and a deeper appreciation for the life they’ve lived.

During this fireside writing retreat, participate in a series of writing prompts designed to explore themes connected to your lived experience. Using creative non-fiction and fiction, poetry and journaling, you will:

Do you want to learn how to reflect inward and unlock what you keep hidden, even from yourself? Find out how expressive writing leads to deeper self-acceptance and healing.

LOCATION:

Address: 585 Bruce Street, Hepworth, Ontario, Canada
Email: kat@dreamerswriting.com

The Dreamers Writing Farm is located in Hepworth, in the Town of South Bruce. We are 10 minutes from Sauble Beach, 7 minutes from Wiarton, and 30 minutes from Lion’s Head.

Sauble Beach is one of the longest freshwater beaches in Canada. Wiarton is famous for Wiarton Willy, the weather predicting groundhog. Lion’s Head is known for it’s hike to the top of the rockface known as the Lion’s Head.

Our property is 3 acres, 50% woods and 50% lawns and gardens. We have a small herd of Nigerian Dwarf Goats who are hand-tamed and LOVE attention. There’s also a beautiful hidden garden in the woods called the Secret Garden. Everything here is literary. Our goats are “The Brothers Grimm,” and each of our accommodations is named after a Canadian author. There are many other hidden literary gems on our property…

ACCOMMODATIONS:

Accommodations include a campsite, 4 bunkies, a glamping tent, or a studio apartment. Each of our units are separately located throughout our 3-acre property. All units except for the campsite are fully furnished and all linens and soaps are supplied. If you select the campsite option, plan to bring your own tent and camping supplies.

The studio apartment has a private washroom and kitchen. All others use shared washroom facilities, located in a separate building. These facilities include an indoor shower, and an outdoor open-air shower, two sinks, and a compost toilet. Our showers and sinks are properly plumbed and have hot water.

For those concerned about sharing these facilities, please feel free to bring your own camping toilet if you prefer. All accommodations include a private BBQ and outdoor seating area. There is also a shared kitchenette located under a covered gazebo.

PRICING:

The cost to register for 1 person ranges from $589 to $1389, depending on the accommodation selected. All prices include accommodation, meals and writing workshops for the duration of the retreat.

Is your friend or partner a writer too? Bring them along! 2 people can share one accommodation for an additional $360. Both of you have full access to all meals and writing workshops during the retreat. To add a friend, add the “bring a friend” add-on option to your ticket.

WHAT TO BRING:

Please come prepare to stay for 3 nights. All accommodations, except for the campsite, are fully furnished and include all linens (sheets, blankets, towels, face cloths). Soap is provided to everyone, including those who are camping.

Make sure to come prepared for the weather. This retreat is at the end of September, so it could either be fall-like weather or summer-like weather. If it’s cold, bring extra blankets.

Please also make sure to bring something to write with (notebook, computer, pens, pencils, etc.). Note that although we will be writing outside, we will heat our covered porch if it’s cold out.

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS:
Social Distancing

We will meet outside to conduct our writing workshops, either on our covered porch, around the fire, or in our outdoor kitchen. As a result, it is possible to social distance the entire time you’re here as our porch is large, and so is our firepit.

We also have a cleaner on staff and lots of sanitizers and disinfecting cleansers, and all sleeping accommodations are separate units spread out over 3 acres.

Please note: in order to avoid potential cancellations, and also for safety’s sake, we are only accepting Ontario residents at this year’s retreat.

Healing is Essential

As this is a healing retreat, it is considered “essential”. Please be prepared to attend this retreat even if we are under pandemic restrictions. A registered social worker will be on call and available to support us.

REGISTRATION:

EventBrite powers the registration for this workshop. You can use the below checkout window to register, or you can go directly to the retreat listing on EventBrite. If you have any questions related to registration or anything else, please email kat@dreamerswriting.com.
